While we admired the talent and beauty of the actors, we had a chance to see another interesting facet of their personality: their taste in fine jewelry.

Here's the high jewelry that turned heads on the red carpet.

The 2019 Oscars ceremony was an exciting night featuring our favorite celebs and some historic wins. While we admired the talent and beauty of the actors, we had a chance to see another interesting facet of their personality: their taste in fine jewelry.

This year, celebs rocked the red carpet with particularly exquisite and flashy pieces. The Oscars are a great opportunity to see a sneak peak at the upcoming jewelry trends that will rise in popularity as the year continues. While some movie stars wore classic diamond necklaces, many stand-out pieces incorporated colored gems, asymmetrical design, and natural shapes; these trends were big in 2018 and will likely continue on an upward trend in 2019 and beyond.

Some of the most memorable pieces of the event were crafted by the usual lux brands (Cartier, Bulgari, Harry Winston), but we also saw some stunning jewelry by notable designers Irene Neuwirth, Cindy Chao, and Lorraine Schwartz. The most colorful and eye-catching piece of the night was Laura Harrier’s Bulgari emerald and ruby necklace, and Maya Rudolph’s quirky multi-stone earrings were another favorite. Actress Tessa Thompson sported intriguing mismatched beryl earrings by the recently passed Karl Lagerfeld. Looking at more conventional gem choices, perhaps the most striking diamond pieces were Michelle Yeoh’s wrap bracelet from Chopard, and Emilia Clarke’s beautiful floral Niwaka bracelet.

The 2019 ceremony also featured some interesting and unique jewelry on the men in attendance as well. Pharrell Williams donned a necklace with colored gems above his diamond name pendant, while Spike Lee wore a Prince-inspired pendant to adorn his all purple tribute outfit to the renowned musician. Adam Lambert’s diamond ear cuff was also an interesting pick that went contrary to gender norms.

But despite all of the amazing new pieces we had a chance to see on Sunday night, perhaps the most elegant of all was one rare item that has stood the test of time: Tiffany’s diamond necklace, featuring its almost mythical Tiffany yellow diamond. This beautiful 128 carat gem is so iconic to the brand that it’s often simply referred to as the “Tiffany Diamond.”

The fancy yellow beauty gained its recognition when Audrey Hepburn wore the prized piece in promotion of her iconic role in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. As it’s the ultimate American symbol of high-end jewelry, having a chance to wear the Tiffany Diamond on the red carpet is a rare honor reserved for only a select few. That honor on Sunday night went to Lady Gaga, who was channeling Audrey Hepburn that night with her iconic black dress and up-do hairstyle.

Gaga performed her song “Shallow” to a captivated Oscars audience, and won for Best Original Song that same night. It’s only fitting that the pop star who captivated the hearts of her generation like Hepburn did in film decades earlier should be graced with the gorgeous fancy yellow gem. Although both wore it set in the center of a diamond necklace, Gaga’s Tiffany choker was a little more subdued, minimalist, and modern.

Although Lady Gaga’s beautiful necklace caught the most attention that night, all of the celebs who walked the red carpet on Sunday sported some of the most unique and beautiful statement pieces in recent years. As fine jewelry trends change and evolve over 2019, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for next year’s Oscars ceremony!
