What is Custom Jewelry?
Unlike most jewelry found in retail stores or online, custom jewelry is totally unique and is developed for a client or customer to meet their specific preferences.
When people come to our site looking for custom jewelry, they’re usually either designers looking to launch a new collection, or clients looking to craft a unique piece, such as an engagement ring.
We also service other jewelry businesses that are in need of wax printing, CAD design, or specialized jewelry production.
Can I really create custom jewelry with no experience (or even drawing skills)?
Yes! All you need is some inspiration and an idea. A drawing can be useful, but it’s not necessary. We work with clients at any level of experience.
Isn’t custom jewelry much more expensive?
Not at all. In fact, you’ll probably pay a lot LESS for a custom engagement ring than you would buying a generic ring at the store, because retail stores mark up their jewelry exponentially.
As for inventory manufacturing, you get what you pay for. If your jewelry line is outsourced overseas it might be cheaper, but you’re likely sacrificing on quality. We also don’t charge markup on any metals or gems; you’re only paying for the production team’s labor.
What does “CAD/CAM” and “3D Modeling” mean?
CAD stands for “Computer Aided Design” and CAM stands for “Computer Aided Model.” Using specialized software, we can create 3D digital models of your jewelry, which allows you to see what it will look like before you even commit to production. This process makes communication between both parties easier, and speeds up the production process.
What is 3D printing and how is it related to jewelry?
3D printing has helped launched a new era in jewelry design in the past decade. After a 3d designer creates a digital model, a 3D printer produces the wax model. This wax model is the basis for the physical piece of jewelry.
Although it’s melted away during the production process, 3D printed waxes have revolutionized the speed and efficiency of the jewelry industry.
Do you work with clients outside of New York?
We do. We accept orders from any state in the US, and most countries around the world (barring shipping restrictions). Although it’s always nice to work with your design/production company in person, technology like Skype allow effortless communication around your project regardless of location.
What makes CadCamNYC different than other jewelry studios?
Simply put, we’re an all-in-one studio; we take care of everything from 3d design to final fabrication. This makes the whole process a lot more efficient.
Also, despite having more than a decade of experience, our co-founders and staff are a bit younger than in most other jewelry production companies, and we’re always on the pulse of the next big thing in jewelry production.
Our office is super friendly and we encourage our clients to come in for an in-person visit whenever they want. (Though it’s best to call us ahead of time!)
Does your studio offer jewelry in wholesale quantities?
While we specialize in one time custom pieces and collections, larger orders are possible. Feel free to contact us to discuss wholesale production.
Is there a minimum order amount?
There is no minimum order. We can produce or design only one piece of jewelry, or your entire collection. We can also produce samples.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We pride ourselves on using the latest, state-of-the art technology and equipment, including Diamond scanners, Solidscape, and 3D Systems Projet. We also use the latest modeling software, including Zbrush, Matrix, Rhino, and several custom made software applications.
Does your studio manufacture jewelry from start to finish?
Yes, we take care of the entire process from start to finish, including design, wax printing, and stone setting. All of our jewelers are highly qualified and have years of experience in the industry.
What is it like working with a specialist?
We can’t speak for other studios, but if you work with us you’re guaranteed to have a pleasant experience. Unlike most jewelry producers, we let our customers come in for a visit whenever they want to discuss their custom creation or 3d model. This allows each and every client to have peace of mind and full involvement in the jewelry production process, if desired.
